Abstract

Phenylethyl Resorcinol (PR) has attracted widespread attention as a skin lightening ingredient due to its excellent tyrosinase inhibitory activity by inhibiting the conversion of tyrosine to L-DOPA. Meanwhile, pre, pro, and postbiotics play an important role in skin aging and skin health by maintaining the balance of skin microbiota. Skincare, especially serums containing these ingredients, have not been reported before. This case report reports two cases of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) in two women aged 31 and 30 years. Both patients complained of dull skin and blackish red patches on the facial area that appeared after healing previous acne, so the patients wanted a facial treatment that could be used daily to rejuvenate the skin and remove the patches. Patients were treated with a serum containing PR, pre, pro and post-biotics (Synbiome White Serum®) twice daily, morning and night for 4 weeks. The efficacy of therapy was assessed based on comparative evaluation of clinical conditions, skin analyzer examination, melanin index and erythema index examination with mexameter, and Transepidermal Water Loss (TEWL) examination with tewameter. After treatment, there was a decrease in wrinkles, pigmentation, melanin index value, erythema index, and improvement in TEWL in both patients. Serum containing active ingredients PR, Streptococcus Thermophilus, Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, Licorice Root Extract Ferment Filtrate, and Lactococcus Ferment Lysate (Synbiome White Serum®) for skin rejuvenation and HPI due to Acne Vulgaris (AV) can be considered as an effective, convenient, and safe therapeutic modality for patients.
