Abstract

Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) is an allergic skin reaction due to repeated contact with a specific substance after the body has become sensitized to it. One common cause of ACD is adhesive tape, often used to cover wounds and as a medium for topical medication. Adhesive tape may contain materials that can trigger an allergic reaction, including parabens, modified rosin, oxybenzone, diisopropylamine, and zinc oxide. These substances act as an occlusive vehicle, enhancing medication absorption into the skin.

A case of ACD was reported in a 19-year-old woman who developed an allergic reaction due to the use of adhesive tape. The diagnosis of ACD was confirmed through a positive patch test result for specific substances in the adhesive. Patch testing is the primary method for identifying allergens that trigger ACD.
